Seen from the water, Kullaberg shows its most dramatic side: sheer rock walls, cave mouths at sea level and coves you can't reach on foot. With luck you'll spot a porpoise or a seal, and Lars Vilks' driftwood sculpture Nimis is visible from the sea near Arild.

Routes and rentals

The classic trip runs between Mölle and Arild, about 13 km of coastline and roughly four hours of steady paddling. In summer, kayaks are rented out in both harbors: sea kayaks for confident paddlers and stable sit-on-tops for beginners. Guided tours and intro sessions suit first-timers.

Before you launch

  • Windthe cliff coast faces open water and gets rough quickly. Pick calm days and stay close to shore.
  • Bird zonesfrom March 1 to July 15, parts of the north coast between Djupadal and Valdemarsgrottan, and the area around Visitgrottan, are closed to protect nesting birds.
  • Cold waterthe sea warms slowly, so keep your life vest on and pack dry clothes.

Arild's small stone harbor is the heart of the village: crabbing off the piers, kayaks along Kullaberg and a view across Skälderviken.

Nimis

Lars Vilks' walk-in towers of driftwood and timber, begun without permission in 1980 and fought over for decades, on the shore below Kullaberg.

Sweden's highest-set and Scandinavia's brightest lighthouse, at the western tip of Kullaberg, guiding ships since 1561.

Booked a guided trip from Mölle on a Saturday. The cave under the cape is worth the whole afternoon. The wind picked up on the return leg — book the morning slot if you can.

We paddled around the cape in July and got under several caves. The water was calm in the morning and the rocks look almost incredible from below. Take a dry suit even when it's hot — the wind can change.
