Kullen Lighthouse shines from 78.5 meters above the sea at the tip of the Kullaberg ridge, marking the northern entrance to the Öresund. A light has been kept here since 1561, and the astronomer Tycho Brahe was once in charge of it.

The lighthouse

The present tower of local gneiss, designed by Magnus Dahlander, was first lit in 1900. Its three large Fresnel lenses turn four times a minute and give three flashes per turn, visible about 50 kilometers away. It was declared a state heritage building in 2017.

The tip is exposed: stay on the paths near the cliff edges and expect wind even on warm days.

Hiking

Color-marked trails over Kullaberg's cliffs, beech woods and heath, from short loops to Kullaleden, about 70 km round the peninsula.

Birdwatching

Kullen is best known among birders for seabirds in autumn westerlies, and for migrants resting on the headland in spring and autumn.

Drive up, walk the last bit. The view across the Kattegat is the postcard view of the cape. The little café was closed when we visited — pack a thermos.
