On this page

A sausage in a bun straight off the grill, stick bread for the children and a burger as the sun goes down: a grill is part of a good day out on Kullaberg. In the nature reserve you may light a fire only at its fixed grill places, around Fyrparkeringen by the lighthouse, at Josefinelust, at Björkeröd and at Himmelstorp, and Höganäs municipality keeps more by the beaches and harbors around the peninsula. They are all free, and the map above shows where each one is.

Wood and charcoal

Bring your own. Länsstyrelsen, which runs the reserve, puts out no firewood and asks you to bring wood or charcoal. Skåneleden says its shelter camps, such as those at Josefinelust and Himmelstorp, have firewood in most cases, but that it can't promise any is left because wood gets stolen, so some days there is wood and some days there isn't. Picking up sticks or breaking branches to burn is forbidden in the reserve, so bring skewers for the sausages and stick bread too.

  • Charcoal or woodcharcoal and briquettes give even heat and few sparks; if you burn wood, choose birch or another hardwood, as softwood throws sparks
  • Lightinguse fire starters, or lighter fluid on cold charcoal only: never pour it on a fire or on embers, and never use petrol or methylated spirits
  • Wait for the embersgrill once the flames have died down and the charcoal glows; turn stick bread over the embers until it is golden and comes off the stick

Where to buy it

Mölle and Arild have no grocery store, and nothing on Kullaberg sells firewood or charcoal, so stock up on the way (shops checked in October 2026):

  • NyhamnslägeICA Nära Skeppet is the nearest grocery store, about ten minutes' drive from Mölle and close to the stop for buses 222 and 223
  • North HöganäsByggmax and jem & fix, in the shopping area on Gärdesgatan and Verkstadsgatan, sell sacks of firewood, kindling and charcoal; shorter hours at weekends
  • HöganäsICA Kvantum and City Gross have charcoal, briquettes, fire starters and lighter fluid, and grill sausages and buns; both are open until 10 pm every day
  • From HelsingborgVikens Lantmän in Viken sells firewood, charcoal and fire starters, but no food; closed on Sundays

Fire bans

In dry weather a fire ban can stop all grilling, so check the fire risk on the day you go: Räddningstjänsten Skåne Nordväst's fire-risk forecast covers Höganäs, and the Brandrisk Ute app shows it on your phone.

  • Fire ban (eldningsförbud)Länsstyrelsen allows no fires or grills in Kullaberg nature reserve while one is in force. You may still use Höganäs municipality's own grill places, but with charcoal or briquettes only; disposable grills are banned
  • Strict fire ban (skärpt eldningsförbud)no grill or fire may be lit, not even at a fixed grill place, and in the countryside, Kullaberg included, not even a spirit or gas stove

Before you leave

  • Put it outspread the embers and pour water over them until nothing smokes; bring a big bottle for it
  • Ashleave it in the grill: never tip ash, or a used disposable grill, into a bin
  • Littertake your rubbish and leftover food home, and leave the place as you found it
