The village began as the fishing hamlet of Nyhamn; the pier was built in 1820, and ships were built here in the 1800s. The name changed to Nyhamnsläge when the railway arrived in 1910. The older houses still cluster around the small boat harbor. South of the harbor runs a long sandy beach with a bathing pier and views across to Denmark, and beyond it the coastal heath of the Nyhamnsläge–Strandbaden nature reserve, where the shallows attract resting seabirds.
Around the village
Kullabergs Vingård lies just northwest of the village, Krapperup castle is a short trip north, and bus 223 continues to Arild. In summer the village gathers for herring evenings and for midsummer on the beach.
