More than 20 caves open onto Kullaberg's coast. Most were hollowed out by the sea when it stood 5–10 meters higher than today, and several have given people shelter, from the Stone Age to the fishermen of the Middle Ages. The easiest to reach are the five around the cove at Josefinelust, down stone steps from the car park.
Caves worth knowing
The legend
Trollhålet at Josefinelust, a 57-meter fissure and Kullaberg's longest known cave, is said to hold pirates' treasure and a passage under the sea to Torekov. In the old tale a young man was lowered in on a rope; when it came back up, only a skull hung from it. His friend lost his mind and never found the cave again.
Safety
The approaches cross steep scree and slippery rock. Don't go into the deeper caves without a guide.
