Skäretslingan, the Skäret loop, is a short walk of about 3 km from the old fishing village of Skäret into Bölsåkra-Tranekärr nature reserve. Länsstyrelsen, the county administrative board, calls the reserve a Kullaberg in miniature. In about an hour you cross grazed pastures, walk along a pebble beach and look out over Skälderviken bay. It is easy, with little climbing, and pairs well with Nabbenslingan.

The route

From the car park by Flickorna Lundgren, follow the blue markers north into Skäret on the path shared with the red Nabbenslingan. Near the harbor the loop turns right along the shore, close beside a pebble beach. After an old Second World War bunker it climbs a hill with sea views, and after a left turn it runs with Kullaleden for a short stretch. It then heads inland through a pasture of small birches and junipers, where the ground is a little uneven, and passes the Skäret shelter on the way back to the car park. You can also walk it the other way, or start near Skäret harbor.

Along the way

  • Coastal heathwindswept pasture with heather, crowberry and juniper, grazed by cattle for more than a thousand years; a remnant of Kulla fälad, the common grazing land that once covered much of the peninsula
  • The shorea rocky coast with wide shingle fields and rock formations, and views across Skälderviken bay to the island of Hallands Väderö
